Crawley & Horsham Hunt Hunter Trial October 2020
Words & Photos by Julian Portch

Rackham’s cross-country course in West Sussex is well known throughout the South East as a nice place to take a young horse or for riders just starting out or coming back to the sport. I’ve always been there for BE Horse Trials, so it was strange not to see the dressage and showjumping arenas, as it was a Hunter Trial.

Having been to six BE Eventing competitions under Covid 19 rules, the CHH team and volunteers put on a smoothly run Hunter Trial, with three heights, 80cm, 90cm and 100cm. Competitors were running to order and the competition ran to time.

It was particularly nice to see eventers with young horses competing along side riders on their hunters and ponies.

I would particularly like to draw attention to Lucy Kleinwort’s victory in the Open Section, showing the younger riders how it’s done.

Thanks must go to the Caroline Hoare and her team for putting on an excellent day of sport.
