Cholmondeley Castle Horse Trials 2020
Words & Photos by Julian Portch

Cholmondeley Castle Horse Trials was held from Saturday 1st August 2020 to Tuesday 2nd August 2020, in the county of Cheshire. Cholmondeley, pronounced “Chumley” by the locals, has the wonderful castle and beautiful backdrops.

The Musketeer Team, lead by Alec Lehore, under Covid 19 Rules, was a slick operation, complete with video cameras at the main entrance and other places, to maintain a record of who had been in and where.

There were four days of competition which, for the most part, ran very smoothly. There were only essential trade stands, tea and coffee, food and tack.

Twenty sections from BE90 up to Intermediate and hundreds of volunteers over the four days. Mike Bain ran the start box with his team, a face I know from the Media Circuit.

All in all, four days of wonder competition, including forty hours of cross country, which is probably why my feet ache.
